Why Budding Hearts?

The dictionary defines budding as showing signs of promise.  Signs of promise…

A quick search of the internet reveals hundreds of non-profits focused on various needs, pains and world issues.  They are target focused.  But when God laid it on our hearts to start a non-profit, narrowing down the cause was the most difficult part.  Numerous hours were spent in prayer trying to hear God’s will.  What group of individuals did He want us to serve?  Who could we be a blessing towards?  His response…  the least of them.

It was such a vague response that we initially got it wrong.  We still tried to narrow down who represented “the least of them”.  But then it finally clicked.  The least of them is the group.  Budding hearts isn’t about bringing to light a specific cause.  We aren’t about trying to find a cure or build a house.  We simply want to be the hands and feet of Jesus in our households, communities, cities, countries and world.

Maybe that means helping a local single mom who is struggling with her bills this month.  Maybe it means going out into the community and feeding the homeless or providing cold water on a really hot summer day.  It could be raising money for a family with a recent cancer diagnosis or even helping restore the home of an elderly who doesn’t want to move, but can no longer live safely in the home they’ve always known.

We are allowing our hearts to bud.  We are fervently growing our hearts for the least of them.  And we would love for you to allow your heart to make the journey too.

1 Peter 4:10 NIV reads “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms”.
